Shadow
Play House:
Shadow play is also known as leather-silhouette
show. It is an ancient folk art and was originated
in the Spring and Autumn Period (BC 770-476). The
making of the stage props of shadow play is the
following: handicraftsmen cut processed goat hide
or ox hide in to human or animal models like paper-cut,
then the performers use pointed bamboo slips to
stick the models on the back of the white cloth
screen (with light cast upon) and play the stories. |

The
Exhibition Hall of Wood Carving:
Door-God and the Real Gentleman
|
Family Celebration
|
Chinese wood carving has enjoyed a venerated history.
Wood carving arts and crafts were in vogue in the
Ming and Qing dynasties(1368-1911).In the old times,
wood engraving articles were mainly used in two
fields: wood furniture and the construction of palaces,
temples, residential houses and gardens. Decorative
wood engraving is mainly used in the roofs, eaves,
windows, railings, doors, roof beams, and so on.
The characters of wood carving in the south are
both practical and beautiful. They reflect people's
lives, customs, religions, traditions and virtues
at that time. Ancient wood carving works bring about
new enlightenment to today's artists and researchers. |

Water
Chambers:
Most of Wuzhen's streets and residences were built
by river. All residential houses by the river are
partly stretched out, supported by stakes or stone
piles hammered in the water and with boards arranged
upon. These buildings are called water chambers.
Living in the water chambers, you will get the feeling
of "resting on the river". Water chambers
usually have windows on three sides, from which
people can watch the beautiful scenery outside. When
you wake up from the dreams in the midnight, you
can hear the sound of rowing boats floating in the
air. |

God
Fortune Bay:
Wuzhen Town is a big town merged by Wu Town and
Qing Town. Between Wu Town and Qing Town, there
is a Chexi River, which is also known as Shi River.
In the middle of the Chexi River, there are two
branches named East Shi River and West Shi River,
which flow to the east and the west respectively.
God Fortune Bay is located at the eastern section
of the East Shi River and by the Fengyuan Twin Bridges.
The bay is designed for boats to turn around here.
Since there is a God Fortune Temple nearby, so the
bay was also named after the temple. In the old
times, there is morning fair held here every day
from 3 AM to 9 PM. |

Fengyuan
Twin Bridges:
Fengyuan Twin Bridges lies at the East Railing of
Wuzhen, which neighbors God Fortune Bay is the first
scenic spot in Wuzhen. It is a corridor bridge and
is composed of two bridges. A screen separate the
two bridges to the middle. Fengyuan Twin Bridges
is really an amazing place of interest in Wuzhen
Town. |
